Boxing Day

Boxing DayDecember is a huge month in the Big Days calendar. Boxing Day is another icon day that is absolutely huge!  Boxing Day is an Australian public holiday and occurs on the day after Christmas. That being the 26th December each year.

Traditionally a lot of retail stores open for big Boxing Day sales on this actual day.  A lot of other Australian iconic events occur too on this day, like the start of the Sydney to Hobart Yacht race out of Sydney Harbour and the Boxing Day Cricket Test commences in Melbourne.  It certainly is a Big Day!

We can see that the interest in Boxing Day is very strong online.  And searches for things related to Boxing Day have increased over the years. In fact in the following graph it can be easy to see that interest has doubled from 2010 to 2019.

Each year it’s indicative that the interest in Boxing Day really ramps up in early December.  Boxing Day is a little different to some other Australian Big Days that might have an earlier “bigger burn” of interest.  We would hypothesis that the competition of Christmas Day puts Boxing Day interest into it’s shadow until closer to the actual day!
